Opening Ceremony and Reception

Please join us for the Opening Ceremony, where we will welcome you to Sacramento and kick off the meeting with important updates. We will also announce some of our exceptional award winners and look forward to a brief address from the 2018 Founders Award winner.

Following the ceremony, please join us for the Opening Reception in the exhibit hall. We will have a live band, and you can get a first look at this year’s exhibitors and start bidding on the silent auction, which benefits student activities.

Exploring Career Choices

2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. | Room 312 | $5

Do you need more information before choosing your career path? Do you wish you could have the opportunity to communicate with professionals from a plethora of career options? The SETAC North America Student Advisory Council and the Early Career Committee invite you to the Exploring Career Choices Event, which will provide a forum to hear from and interact with multiple representatives from each sector. Students and early career professionals are encouraged to participate in this unique event. Small groups will get the chance to talk to professionals who are at different stages in their career and from a variety of sectors. The event concludes with an open mixer where you can continue conversations. You will be able to ask question about what the application and interview process was like for them, their day-to-day activities, what people look for in a candidate, including education levels, and learn about continuing career paths and fields. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

Poster Social

After the first day of full program, join us in the exhibit hall to talk science in a more casual atmosphere. Stop by the silent auction to place or check your bids.

Government Employee Collaboration Meeting

4:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m. | Hyatt Ballroom A

 For years, government employees attending SETAC have had informal or formal meetings, and there has been interest by many in facilitating greater communication and collaboration. The purpose of this meeting is for government employees attending the SETAC annual meeting to build professional relationships and discuss non-confidential projects and current scientific and regulatory challenges, determine if there are possibilities for future collaboration and cooperation among agencies or groups, and discuss potential avenues for doing so. Employees from any local, state, federal or international government agency are welcome to attend. 

Preregistration is not required; however, for planning purposes, those interested in attending are encouraged to respond. Responses and questions can be sent to Wesley Hunter, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, at

Early Career Social

Are you at the beginning of your career? Did you know that SETAC has an entire committee that was recently formed to help you navigate this stage of your life? The SETAC North America Early Career Committee invites you to its second annual Early Career Social. This will be an informal chance for you to make new connections during the meeting while enjoying some light refreshments. This event is intended to connect self-identifying Early Career members of SETAC with each other. We’ll also have some optional activities to help you meet and chat with new people, and we’ll take a few minutes to update you about the SETAC Early Career Committee activities. So reserve your spot when you register for the meeting, or visit the SETAC Store online to add this event to your existing registration. We will see you there!

NorCal Regional Chapter Social

7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. | Brü Taproom

Enjoy an evening out with the SETAC Northern California Regional Chapter for the “Welcome to Sacramento Social Event.” Try local Northern California beers, ciders or wine, and connect with fellow scientists. There will be free appetizers, and the first 50 attendees receive a free drink ticket. All SETAC members and friends are welcome.

Join the SETAC students for the 5th Annual North America Student Mixer! There will be drinks, music and all the arcade games you can play at Coin-Op. Tickets include 2 drinks. Drinking age is 21+. No one under 21 will be admitted.

You don’t want to miss the last poster social of the meeting. Take this chance to soak up a bit more science and say good bye to your colleagues and new friends. We will also take a moment to cheer to all the organizers and participants as a thank you for making this meeting possible.
